Europe’s Reception of Thomas Moore
1817-80

separator

ERIN has promoted and recorded the results of three performance projects related to Thomas Moore. Files 1-21 below are from a live concert (11 May 2017) celebrating the bicentenary of his Lalla Rookh. Featuring student performers in the final year of the BMUS at Queen’s, it presents a selection of songs and pieces from larger works by composers active in the nineteenth century. These works are either directly based on Moore’s own text, or are inspired by it. Files 22-32 are from a second live concert (SMI conference, 17 June 2017) to mark Lalla Rookh’s bicentenary. Music by European composers such as Thomas Attwood, Félicien David, Georg Gerson and Robert Schumann feature in these two concerts. Files 33-41 offer a representative response by selected British and Irish composers to some of Moore’s lyrics for the Irish Melodies series.

CREDITS. Files 1-21 were recorded by Jason Jackson. Files 22-32 were recorded by Oisín Hughes and David Bird. Files 33-41 were recorded by David Bird.
